Heather Richardson
Joy Heather Richardson passed from this life on June 21, 2021.
She was a healing touch as a massage therapist for many years in Berea with Berea's Ways Meet. She also worked with the Berea Arts Council.
Heather's most recent work was with Arts Connect Eastern Kentucky, a collaboration among several artists who make arts-making opportunities available to people incarcerated in Knox County Detention Center, in Recovery Cells at the Kentucky River Regional Detention Center, and to women recovering at Sky Hope Recovery Center.
Heather’s academic and life interests included philosophy, religion, art, and healing. For me, her art expresses a way of designating sacredness in a world where the mundane is only that in which we have not yet seen the holy.
Heather created mandalas to give form to her meditations. ‘Love the Trees’ is an invitation to participate in the act of remembering that breath on Earth comes through beings that link themselves with each other in mutually supportive networks. To remember is to create gratitude, the essence of religion.
Her last project was to invite others to share their memories of trees or of a certain tree, and to tell the story of that memory. If you would like details for sharing your own story of a special tree or trees as part of Heather’s final and ongoing project, please contact brendasamara2012@gmail.com.
